su![]() .su was assigned as the top-level domain for the Soviet Union on September 19, 1990. It remains in use today, even though the Soviet Union itself no longer exists, and is administered by the Russian Institute for Development of Public Networks (RIPN or RosNIIRos). De facto .su is commonly used by ex-USSR countries (CIS and Baltic region). It is also becoming popular in Russia. Since 2003, registration in .su domain zone was open for anyone without restrictions. Since 2008, cyrillic names became available in .su domain.
